Yes, there is no charge for an estimate. We can provide this via our website, a visit, video call or phone call.

A-Co NY charges for your move under a transparent flat rate system based on the volume of cargo and labor involved. These rates vary according to the plan, and we invite you to contact us to discuss specifics.

Please contact us at that time, and we will provide a revised estimate. Try to do so at least 3 days before the move, as changes in the volume could potentially affect the day on which we can provide the service.

Cancellation Policy

A cancellation charge of $100 is payable when cancelling within 2-5 days of the move. A cancellation charge of 50% of the amount of the estimate is payable when cancelling on the day before or the day of the move.

Please note that if the rules of your move-out or move-in building require the issuance of a Certificate of Insurance for liability purposes when carrying possessions in or out, a fee of $150/case (actual cost) will be charged for the incurred expense.

The entire cleaning charge will be payable if cancelling on the day before or the day of service. Schedule changes made on the day of service will also be treated as cancellations, and require payment of the entire amount.

Reservation Policy

The high season for moving is between March and October. We recommend that you reserve early, especially for days either side of the month-end. The busiest months of the year are March, June and July, so it is best at those times to reserve about one month in advance. In the winter, snow can sometimes impede truck access, so we’d recommend you reserve shortly before your move-out date.

A deposit is not required for a local move, but for middle-distance and long-distance moves we require a 50% deposit.

Payments

Payment is normally due on the day of the move, upon completion. You can pay by personal check, company check, online payment, or credi card. Ask for details when obtaining your estimates.

Your invoice does not include a service charge, so if you are satisfied with the service, our staff would appreciate a tip.

Insurance

We take the greatest care in handling your belongings, but in the unlikely event of an accident, we have Liability Insurance coverage in the states of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

If goods are damaged, the insurer will cover 60 cents/lb for the item(s) concerned.

Example: Insurance compensation if a closet (weighing 100lb) is damaged

*The liability insurance above applies only to compensation for items that we have wrapped or packed. Please understand that for items packed by the customer, items that are not packed, and items that (even if packed) are not externally damaged, compensation is not payable.

It is possible to take out additional insurance. The premium in that case will be 3% of the insured value.

Additional charges

In the following circumstances, additional charges will apply:

If the volume of articles to be transported increases beyond those included in the ‘Baggage List’ initially submitted.

If non-furniture items are not already packed. *Separate packing service fees will then apply.

If (notwithstanding the presence of an elevator) there are steps in the entrance and exit ways through which baggage is carried, or if the size or shape of baggage makes it difficult to enter and exit, and the elevator cannot be used.

If for suburban buildings the approach is sloping or has steps, or if an underground passage must be used to carry items in and out.

If the size or shape of baggage requires a door to be removed, or access via a window is necessary.

We will pack non-furniture electronic items (TVs, audio equipment, lighting fixtures) ourselves, but the customer will be charged for the packing materials.

If we cannot secure a parking spot on the day, we will do our best to station an employee in the truck so that it can be moved at any time, but there may be occasions when a parking ticket is incurred. Please understand that in these circumstances, we will require the customer to bear the cost of the fine.

We will take care of assembly and disassembly for furniture.

Clothing can stay in the case. But please remove any breakable non-clothing articles and pack those in boxes.

Any type is fine, but please place particularly small boxes (shoe box size less than 14 inches in length) inside larger boxes.

Try to fit it in a large box. If too big to fit, please put into plastic bags.

Yes. We will bring 6 of these boxes on the day for no extra charge, so these items can be left on their hangers.

We will bring a cooler with ice. All of the food in your fridge may not fit in the cooler, so please pack items that do not need to be frozen in boxes.

We use cloth blankets. Glass furniture and mirrors are wrapped in blankets and then protected further with cardboard.

We will pack these, using a specialized box for TVs. Packing materials for lamp shades incur a separate charge.

Workers’ compensation insurance is not applicable in the event of injuries if footwear is removed, so our staff will wear shoe coverings to do the job.

More About Cleaning

We will use the customer’s equipment to perform regularly scheduled cleaning. For one-off cleaning sessions, we will prepare the equipment.

You do not need to be at home, but it is best if you can be available to confirm the final results.

Laundry costs are the reponsibility of the customer.
